Kali Malone (b. 1994) is an American-Swedish composer and musician based in Stockholm. Her compositions implement specific tuning systems in minimalist structure for pipe organ, choir, chamber music ensembles, and electroacoustic formats. Malone’s music is rich with harmonic texture through synthetic and acoustic instrumentation in repetitive motions and extended durations. The music emits distinct emotive, dynamic, and affective hues which bring forth a stunning depth of focus. For The Lab, Malone will present an electronic set alongside her multichannel specialized diffusion piece, Living Torch.
Kali Malone has performed extensively, presenting her music at Musica Festival, Berlin Atonal, Moogfest, Hamburg Elbphilharmonie, Philharmonie de Paris, Radio France, Rockefeller Chappel in Chicago, Grace Cathedral in San Francisco, The Southbank Center, Bozar, Schauspielhaus, First Congressional Church of Los Angeles, Orgelpark, Unsound Festival, Kanal Pompidou, Eglise Saint Francois, Örgryta Kyrka, Johannes Kyrka in Malmö, St. John’s Smith Square in London, First Unitarian Church of Brooklyn, The Cathedral of St. James in Toronto and Montreal, amongst many other concert halls, churches and museums in Europe and North America. Her commission projects and residencies include the Ina GRM, The Richard Thomas Foundation, MACBA, Macadam Ensemble, Orgelpark, Elektronmusikstudion, and Tempo Reale. She collaborates and performs with various artists, including Stephen O’Malley, Lucy Railton, Frederikke Hoffmeier, Leila Bordreuil, Drew McDowall, Caterina Barbieri, and Ellen Arkbro. In 2016 she co-founded the record label and concert series XKatedral, together with Maria W Horn, in Stockholm.
