A new project by Lucie Vítková, Pasakorn Nontananand and Teerapat Parnmongkol, Neutral Attunement focuses on the act of recovery and healing of the body and mind through light (projection) and vibration (sound). In the context of mental health, recovery refers to the process of regaining emotional and psychological well-being after experiencing mental illness or emotional distress. In Neutral Attunement, the musicians listen to the acoustics of The Lab and tune into its resonant frequency and fundamental rhythm, applying this to electronics, harmonica, hichiriki, and electric guitar. Visuals from the hand drawings and paintings of Pasakorn Nontananand relate to his personal self-healing, in combination with live computer-generated video.
In Neutral Attunement, the musicians listen to the acoustics of The Lab and tune into its resonant frequency and fundamental rhythm, applying this to electronics, harmonics, hichiriki, and electric guitar. Each musician has a single speaker on wheels, to move the sound source throughout the piece. Similar to healing a physical injury with ultrasound during physical therapy, this stream of sound is used to focus work on the place of injury and is moved to cover the whole location. Visuals from the hand drawings and paintings of Pasakorn Nontananand relate to his personal self-healing, in combination with live computer-generated video. The audience is invited to move throughout the space and stand around or in-between the performers.
Lucie Vítková and Teerapat Parmongkol met in May 2021 in New York to improvise and record music, using the instrumentation of an electric guitar (Parnmongkol) and synthesizer (KORG Volca Bass), harmonica, hichiriki, and voice (Vítková). Since then, they have performed under the name Seminar Shadow, a duet whirling in a seminar (sonic) shadow, dancing themselves in continuous inconsistency between being and becoming.
Their music is influenced by experimental music, noise, jazz, rock, metal, and folk music (Czech, Isan/Morlam). The music varies according to the places they play, and they have performed at Wonderville (Uneven Geographies), Sunview Luncheonette, Living Gallery (Undisclosed Locations), Bop Dubu (Nolja), Nha Minh, Scholes Street Studio (Infrequent Seams Festival) and Roulette Intermedium (Pieces from Darkness).
