Opening Reception: January 10, 6pm - 9pm
Through a collaborative effort, The Lab and cloaca projects present arcane transmissions, a project originally conceived by Peter Simensky and cloaca projects.
arcane transmissions seeks to collapse the interior-exterior site of The Lab’s Redstone Building through the production of a collection of low-frequency radio transmitters and receivers as sculptures that transform pyrite (the technical term for “fool’s gold”) into channels for community engagement and communication.
The project, which will be open January 10 - March 1, 2025, includes a performance series accompanied by some of Simensky’s Pyrite Radio sculptures. The works will be activated with live transmissions from Lower Grand Radio, and installed in a semblance of how they were displayed in Peter’s studio around the time when this project was conceived.
In his practice, Peter had a great preoccupation with creating space for people to come together through his sculptural work, sound and shared live experiences. With his untimely death, the project has transformed into a celebration of his work and an invitation to a few artists to create live performances that have an affinity with Peter’s artistic ethos.
Performance Series:
1/10/2025: Opening Reception with a long-form experimental DJ set by Cone Shape Top featuring live performance by Laura Cohen and tagoliloooooong and live visuals by Macro Wave Collective.
2/22/2025: Rick Prelinger, Anna Friz and Jeff Kolar: The Other Spectrum
The Lab graciously acknowledges the support of the National Endowment forthe Arts’ Grants for Arts Projects program in the production and presentation of arcane transmissions.
